Terror at the Mall

On 21 September 2013, four masked gunmen attacked the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya, armed with grenades and AK-47s. To the horror of a global audience, 71 people would lose their lives while scores of innocent shoppers would be held hostage for nearly 3 days, with children as young as 5 among them.

Terror at the mall’ successfully pieces together hundreds of hours of CCTV footage providing a minute by minute account, narrated by the survivors themselves as they appear in the footage.

The result provides flashes of chilling terror when confronted with the terrorists themselves, but also moments of immense bravery shown by both police and members of the public as they battle to salvage something from the horrendous attack, exacerbated by the amateurish emergency response.
