Fantastic Man: A Film About William Onyeabor

Fantastic Man: A Film About William Onyeabor

‘Who is William Onyeabor?’ - New York-based label Luaka Bop tried, and failed, to find this out in 2013 when they released an album of the same name which compiled the work of the mystery 70s and 80s Nigerian synthesizer musician. Pitchfork named the album Best New Reissue and the album tore through the dance music scene like a wildfire, with tracks ‘Fantastic Man’ and ‘Atomic Bomb’ swiftly surpassing a million views on Youtube.

The film Fantastic Man, directed by Jake Sumner, tells the story of Onyeabor through the medium of modern day fans, including artists Damon Albarn and Caribou's Dan Snaith, along with some rare insight from Onyeabor’s old neighbours and friends in Nigeria.

This is a fascinating watch with an unbelievable soundtrack, watch it for free on Youtube now.
