Abandoned Footage of Friends' Gruelling Hike Comes Back To Life In A Smooth Edit

‘Reminisce’ is our latest Free of the Week and a worthy addition to those that have been produced during lockdown. Instead of using ingenious filming techniques or taking action to fight the crisis, filmmaker Elliot Kennedy went back in time by delving into his catalogue of unused footage, bringing a tough trip with friends through Scotland back to life.

Originally intending to shoot a pitch for an online adventure series, Kennedy, along with best friends Callum Wilson and Will Churchill, travelled to Cairngorms National Park by Megabus before embarking on a two-week hike that was far more testing than they had ever expected. The film took a backseat and the project was abandoned.

Reminiscing about the trip over the phone during lockdown, Kennedy recovered the footage to produce a slickly edited short that perfectly captures the blend of confidence, energy and naivety that so often defines ambitious projects among friends.

Edit: ‘Free of the Week’ is now ‘Short of the Week’.
