‘Clinch’ is an intimate portrait of a group of Mixed Martial Artists, struggling together during the Covid-19 quarantine in São Paulo, Brazil - a tricky situation that remains only partially resolved today.
Director Fred Ouro Preto talks us through the ideation process of his film, our latest Short of the Week:
I always liked combat sports. A few months ago when I switched gyms, I met and started training with the athletes who live in the academy accommodation.
At the same time I knew I would have an interesting story for a film, when the quarantine started the situation and their living conditions became even more difficult and I realised that it was the right time to shoot.
