Blue Has No Borders : Is Community Still Possible in Britain? Exclusive Sheffield DocFest Trailer

Exclusive first look trailer of Blue Has No Borders by Jessi Gutch ahead of its World Premiere at Sheffield DocFest 2025.

In her debut feature documentary, young filmmaker Jessi Gutch grapples with the turmoil of Britain’s increasingly violent identity crisis by getting to know her new neighbours in the iconic British port town of Folkestone.

But in the aftermath of Brexit, in a town which sees refugees washing up from France on a daily basis, building new relationships isn’t easy.

“Through the making of this film I somehow found the soul of this country again.”

At a time when everyone seems to hate anyone who’s different, Jessi Gutch sets out to do the unthinkable: seek common ground. She pursues honest conversations with six people, on the subjects of race, class and politics, and brings them together, in the hope of overcoming each other’s differences. Questioning British identity as it goes, the film finds hope in ways of dealing with the fear and uncertainty of present times.

An ode to participatory filmmaking, Blue Has No Borders is a refreshing call to resist narratives that simplify, sensationalise and platform extreme views.

Blue Has No Borders will be World Premiering at Sheffield DocFest on Friday 20th of June, the screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Jessi Gutch.
