'No Other Land' Wins Oscar Just Hours After Israel Blocks Aid Into Gaza

Israel has blocked the entry of all humanitarian aid into Gaza as it demands Hamas agree to a US plan proposed by Donald Trump’s administration for a ceasefire extension, in contradiction with what was initially planned in the truce mediated by Egypt, Qatar and the US.

A Hamas spokesman said blocking supplies to Gaza was "cheap blackmail" and a "coup" on the ceasefire agreement and urged mediators to intervene.

Just hours later, ‘No Other Land’ by Yuval Abraham, Basel Adra, Rachel Szor and Hamdan Ballal won the Oscar for Best Feature Documentary at the 97th edition of the Academy Awards. You can discover the full list of winners, including documentary short, here.

Shot in 2023 and ending with the start Israel’s full-scale invasion, the film bears witness to the mass expulsion of Palestinians from the village of Masafer Yatta and attempts to create a resistance by building an alliance between Palestinian activist Basel Adra and Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham.

In their acceptance speeches, Adra and Abraham implored the international community to take action and spoke of “a different path” for Israel, “without ethnic supremacy”, adding that the United States’ current foreign policy was “a block to this path”.

Yuval Abraham ended his speech with : “My people can be truly safe if Basel’s people are truly free and safe. There is another way. It’s not too late for life, for the living. There is no other way.”
