Backbone of the Sahara
The Mauritania railway is one of world’s most extreme. At more than 430 miles long, and with trains that reach up to 3 kilometres it length, it has been transporting iron ore across the blistering heat of the Sahara Desert since 1963.
The train is the bedrock of the Mauritanian economy and a lifeline to the outside world for the people who live along its route.
Be transported through Mauritania’s moonscape to the soundtrack of a rumbling beast of a train. Join the fishermen who catch a ride along the way and meet face to face with the nomadic people who have made the railway their lifeline.
Make sure you have good bass.
