They Shall Not Grow Old

They Shall Not Grow Old

It’s 100 years since the end of the great war, but with his phenomenal new film « They Shall Not Grow Old », Peter Jackson has brought it closer to life than ever before.

He has done so by restoring, colouring and retiming archive footage from the Imperial War Museum before setting it to narration from the soldiers themselves, speaking to a BBC crew in the 1960s.

The result is heart-wrenchingly real. This is a beautiful yet horrifying film that everyone should watch, and with the notable absence of historians, commentators or politicians, it is a hommage to a generation of men that were lost if not in body, then in soul.

The film is available to watch on the BBC’s iPlayer for 5 more days only - watch it while you can.
