Watch the Best in Short VR Docs for Free During the Barcelona 360° VR & AR Market

Today marks the start of the Barcelona 360° VR & AR Market’s fourth edition, running online until the 18th of December, a unique opportunity to discover an exciting new documentary format.

In its film competition, the festival brings together the year’s best VR films, as well as a retrospective section and an exciting new space dedicated to documentaries featuring a talk from pioneering documentary director Robert Fox.

What’s more, all the films are available to watch online, for free.

Spain’s largest VR event of the year is a meeting point for prominent professionals around the world in a sector that is still emerging. Virtual Environments, Super High Definition, Artificial Intelligence, Technology, Education, Health, Equality, Inclusion, Sound, Cinema and Video games are all being covered, with the five-day conference being structured around three key axes:

  • Professional conferences - Online talks with different professionals on the application of Virtual Reality in the mentioned areas.

  • A unique opportunity for individual one-to-one meetings with the speakers, upon prior request from ticket-holders.

  • VR Cinema - a chance to watch this year’s outstanding VR short films, as well as a curated retrospective, all from the comfort of your own home.

This year’s films will compete for Best VR Short Film, with the winner announced at the end of the festival.

Robert Fox, the founder of leading VR documentary production company Fox Media, will hold the online conference "Creating VR Documentaries" on Wednesday December 16 at 13:00 CET, where he’ll be discussing the novel aspects of filming reality in 360º. After the conference there’ll also be an opportunity for one-to-one meetings with the director for those that are interested, upon request.

Fox has directed a number of politically engaged VR non-fiction films, from “My Drowning Island”, an intimate insight into President Anote Tong’s drowning Island of Kiribati that featured at CPH:DOX, to “Mist over Beijing”, a heart-rending account of the deadly impact of pollution in China’s cities.

His latest film, “Saving My Oasis”, will be competing for this year’s award. It follows the experience of M'Hamid as he fights Morocco’s desertification to reclaim his childhood oasis.
